Jax Taylor is stepping away from the spotlight to put his mental health and sobriety first. The 46-year-old The Valley star has officially cut ties with his Los Angeles bar, Jax’s Studio City, in what he calls a “carefully considered” decision to prioritize his well-being.
A spokesperson confirmed to Us Weekly that the former Vanderpump Rules star is taking “a necessary step” for his sobriety and mental clarity. The update came shortly after TMZ reported that Jax’s name had been removed from the bar’s signage, signaling a full break from the business.
This move follows Taylor’s recent exit from Season 3 of The Valley, which documented his highly publicized split from wife Brittany Cartwright. The couple, who share a 4-year-old son, Cruz, had their turbulent marriage play out on screen — something Jax says has taken a toll on his healing process.
“Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and co-parenting,” he shared. “Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son.”
While he’s not ruling out a return to TV, Jax emphasized on his In the Mind of Jax Taylor podcast that this is just a “pause” and not a permanent farewell.
“The more I talked about it with everybody, it just didn’t seem to make a lot of sense [to continue].”
He also opened up about the emotional strain of reliving drama through the show’s airing:
“We get past a lot of stuff after filming and then we have to relive it again when the show comes on. That kind of never allows the wound to heal.”
After a challenging year, time in rehab, and ongoing public scrutiny, Jax is choosing peace over publicity, at least for now. Fans will be watching closely to see if — and when — he makes his return.
