Hollywood power player David Geffen is facing a storm of scandal — not from the red carpet, but from the courtroom. The 82-year-old billionaire producer and co-founder of DreamWorks is being sued by his estranged husband, Donovan Michaels, in a bombshell lawsuit that reads like a dramatic movie script.
Filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the lawsuit claims that Geffen treated Michaels, 32, like a “living social experiment”, seducing him with wealth, luxury, and promises of lifelong support — only to later kick him to the curb.
Michaels, a dancer whose real name is David Armstrong, says their relationship began on SeekingArrangements back in 2016, where Geffen allegedly paid him $10,000 for sex. Fast-forward to 2023, the pair were married in a private Beverly Hills ceremony — with no prenuptial agreement.
But the dream came crashing down when Geffen filed for divorce in May 2025, citing irreconcilable differences. Now, Michaels is hitting back with claims of breach of contract, emotional abuse, and being “discarded like yesterday’s headlines” while Geffen partied aboard his $400 million superyachtat Jeff Bezos’s Venice wedding.
The complaint paints Geffen as a controlling billionaire who allegedly demanded “painful” cosmetic procedures, belittled Michaels’s background, and kept him dependent through lavish displays of wealth and backhanded compliments.
“He loved showing me off like a trophy,” Michaels claims, comparing himself to a real-life version of the movie Trading Places.
He also alleges Geffen promised to share assets equally and provide lifelong financial support, a promise that Michaels says convinced him to walk away from his own career and dreams.
Geffen’s legal team is firing back hard. Attorney Patty Glaser called the lawsuit “false and pathetic”, insisting no such agreement ever existed.
But the accusations don’t stop there. Michaels says he was thrown out of their New York homewhile Geffen was “dancing the night away with the 0.0001%” in Venice, leaving him homeless.
He accuses the media mogul of public philanthropy while privately leaving him destitute:
“Geffen gives millions to the homeless while working to make me one,” the suit alleges.
As the legal battle heats up, the drama between Geffen and Michaels is playing out like a Hollywood thriller — only this time, there’s no script and no happy ending in sight.
