Get ready for more jumpscares, chaos, and creepy animatronic mayhem. Josh Hutcherson is back as Mike Schmidt, and this time, the horrors are multiplying.
The Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel — hitting cinemas December 5, 2025 — promises to raise the stakes in every way. During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Hutcherson teased:
“There’s a lot more animatronics… and bigger set pieces. It’s scarier, darker, and just way more intense.”
Director Emma Tammi doubled down, revealing that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 features more than three times the number of animatronic terrors compared to the 2023 box office hit.
“There’s so much more action in this one,” she said. “We’re expanding the story, the characters, and definitely the carnage.”
Returning cast members include:
• Piper Rubio as Abby (Mike’s sister)
• Elizabeth Lail as police officer Vanessa Shelley
• Matthew Lillard as the twisted William Afton
Plus, new faces like Skeet Ulrich, Mckenna Grace, and Wayne Knight are joining the nightmare.
The sequel picks up right after the events of the first film, where Mike survived a string of terrifying nights at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza — a haunted pizzeria where the animatronics come alive after dark. In this new chapter, Mike just wants a quiet life for him and Abby, but FNAF has other plans.
“He’s got all this trauma from the first film,” Hutcherson said. “He’s faking it till he makes it… and then it happens again. Poor Mike!”
While Mike struggles to hold it together, Freddy and his terrifying friends are back — and they’re not alone this time.
And fans might want to stick around beyond the second film. Matthew Lillard hinted at a potential trilogy, saying:
“If this movie’s a hit, they’re making a third — and if they do, I get to kill Mike Schmidt. That’s going to be cinematic magic!”
Jason Blum, the man behind Blumhouse Productions, added:
“If enough people show up, we’d be thrilled to make Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.”
The countdown is on. December 5 is shaping up to be one horrifying night at Freddy’s you won’t want to miss.
