Sandra Redknapp, wife of legendary football manager Harry Redknapp, has been hospitalised, according to ITV Racing pundit Matt Chapman.

During ITV4’s coverage of the Racing League at Great Yarmouth on Thursday night, Chapman paused commentary to send well wishes to Sandra, 78, and her husband Harry, also 78, who was watching the races from her hospital bedside.

“Sandra, if you’re listening in — I think she wanted to watch Emmerdale, but Harry’s making her watch this race — I really hope King of Bears runs well,” Matt said, referencing the couple’s horse.

While details of her condition remain private, the Redknapps have faced health challenges before. Sandra previously battled sepsis, a life-threatening condition, just before Harry entered the jungle for ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2018. Harry, who won the series, emotionally recalled nearly pulling out of the show to stay by Sandra’s side.

“She was really ill. I wasn’t going to go… but then she improved. I said any problems and I’m out of there straight away,” he shared at the time.

Sandra and Harry’s love story dates back to 1963, when they had their first date at the Two Puddings pub in East London. They married in 1968 and have since become one of British celebrity culture’s most beloved long-term couples.

Parents to Jamie Redknapp, 52, and Mark Redknapp, 55, the couple recently celebrated over five decades of marriage. In a 2022 interview, Harry revealed the simple secret to their lasting bond:

“You meet somebody, and you fall in love, and we just never fell out of love. We love each other’s company.”

As Sandra receives care, the Redknapps are being surrounded by public support and well-wishes from fans, the football world, and the racing community alike.
