BBC weather queen Carol Kirkwood is embracing love the way it comes — with a few cross words, a lot of kindness, and 2:45am tea-making sessions. Now that’s British romance.
The BBC Breakfast presenter, 63, tied the knot with police officer Steve Randall, 49, in an intimate Buckinghamshire wedding back in December 2023. But despite the newlywed glow, Carol isn’t pretending everything is rainbows and roses — and we love her even more for it.
“There isn’t such a thing, I don’t think, as the perfect romance… of course you’re going to fall out or have cross words. That’s life,” she told the Daily Mirror.
Friends First, Lovers Later
Carol and Steve didn’t exactly rush into love. After her 15-year divorce from property developer Jimmy Kirkwood, the beloved weather presenter wasn’t even looking for romance.
“We were friends before we became involved. That was nice. I got to know him as a friend, and he’s so kind.”
Talk about slow-burn love goals!
“I’m Punching!” (No, He Is)
Carol laughs about their 13-year age difference, saying she’s “really punching” by landing Steve — but he insists he’s the lucky one.
Age? Not an issue for Carol.
“Other people’s opinions about an age gap don’t matter. I don’t feel he’s younger than me — he’s just so romantic.”
And he truly proves it every single day.
“On the days I work, he gets up at 2.45am to make me a cup of tea and packs my breakfast. That means more to me than being taken to an expensive restaurant.”
We’re not crying. You’re crying.
Retirement Plans: From Studio to Camper Van
Now that love is all packed up and cozy, Carol and Steve are ready for their next adventure — retirement! But not the put-your-feet-up type.
“We’ll travel in a camper van or get in the car, cross over to France and just drive,” Carol revealed to Saga magazine.
Forget sunbeds — this couple wants winding roads and spontaneous detours!
Romance Isn’t Dead, It’s Just Having a Nap
While some say romance is out of style, Carol Kirkwood is here to remind us otherwise.
“We all need a bit of romance in our lives. It may not be trendy at the moment, but it’ll always come back. There’ll always be room in the world for romance.”
From stormy forecasts to sunshine after the rain, Carol’s love story proves that the second time around can be even sweeter — imperfect, real, and full of love.
